Invicta is a custom-built 30ft power catamaran, featuring a high-performance hull with two transverse steps. This allows for passive ventilation, which decreases the wetted surface area and effectively increases fuel efficiency 10 – 15% when planning. Invicta is designed to withstand the harsh sea conditions fishermen encounter in and around the “Cape of Storms”. Maiden Voyage Industries can design and manufacture any interior to meet clients’ specifications and needs. Be it a luxury cruiser. whale-watching boat, center console, or a dive support vessel.

Virtual tow tank testing:

To test, iterate and optimize vessel performance and stability MVI adopts specialized virtual tow tank testing. The CAD model and operating conditions are provided as inputs to virtual tow tank testing. A dedicated Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) service provider is consulted to conduct the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. A Volume of Fluid (VOF) method is used in conjunction with a Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction (DFBI) model to capture the free-surface and vessel movements respectively.

The virtual tow tank testing provides both quantitative and qualitative results which can be used to predict if it performs according to the hydrodynamic design specifications and to optimize the design further. The free surface results of the CFD simulations for Invicta and the surface pressure distribution is illustrated below.
